I'm trying to activate my LFConnector Serial Number in the licensing tab, but I receive a dialog box stating "The device code could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the IP Address of the device correctly". What can I do?
First, make sure you are using the correct IP Address for activation ( please see this FAQ ).  If that is not the cause of  your issue, please see if one of the following scenarios fits your environment.

Case 1: Multihomed ShareScan Manager

In this scenario the LFConnector is running on a multihomed (i.e. multiple network connections) computer, which is strongly discouraged for proper LFConnector usage.  It is recommended to disable all but the primary Network Adapter on the computer and then re-activate your serial number.

If the above is not feasible at this time, you might try modifying the Network Binding order on the computer (sample steps below are for a Windows 7 environment):
  • open the "Control Panel" and proceed to the "Network and Sharing Center"
  • select "Change Adapter Settings"
  • when the list of currently defined network interface are listed, select "Advanced" then "Advanced Settings"
Note:  If the toolbar is not visible, press the "Alt" key to make it so
  • on the "Adapters and Bindings" tab, review the order of Connections" in the top window
  • make sure the network interface listed first (i.e. at the top) is the interface for the main network for the workstation   (if it is not, reorder the connections so that it is, and save all settings)
  • restart all of the ShareScan services and try to activate the LFConnector again

Case 2: Multiple Network Segments not Passing SNMP Traffic

Another possible cause of this message can be traced to the presence of multiple network segments in a larger environment, and the ShareScan Manager is on a separate subnet from the target MFP.

In this scenario, the LFConnector licensing agent utilizes SNMP to communicate with the MFP, but is unable to retrieve the information it needs in order to complete the activation.

Please ensure the following:

  • SNMP is enabled on the MFP, and the read-only Community Name is set to “public”
  • SNMP traffic is allowed to flow freely between the ShareScan Manager and the MFP.  Specifically, please confirm:
    • SNMP traffic is allowed on the Windows Firewall of the ShareScan Manager machine
    • SNMP traffic is allowed through any switch(es), firewall(s), or router(s) that may exist between the ShareScan Manager machine and the MFP
